Salvation for Pune Roads

Hi All, At last Pune roads will finally get redemption and salvation by the 30th Nov 2006. That being the date fixed by the Mumbai High Court for getting all roads pot hole free. Thats provided the officials in the Pune Municipal Corporation deem it reasonable to comply with the court orders.. Some friends have already tried gandhigiri and not seen success till date. Gandhi Ji has told us that it the opponent attacks you and slaps you on one side of the face show him the other. He obviously has not told us if the A**H@!$ attacks you the second time. Then I guess it time to revert back to Circuit Giri. Lets see who becomes circuit this time - The People or the Court. Either ways we need more Circuits to get some sense into the heads of these "Government Servents". Maybe some Circuit procedures to perforate their heads will help in the Osmosis Process... Cheers till then, Pushkar Bhat

Pune Roads and Gandhigiri

Hi, For the past some months folks in Pune in India have been experiencing a roads system which seems to be terminally ill. Whats even more surprising is the fact that Public representative refuse to acknowledge the problem. Seems to be a strange case of infrastructural euthanesia :(. All this after the city having spent a record amount for improving roads just last year. BTW couple of weeks ago I had the honor of watching a movie called "Lage Raho Munna Bhai". The central theme was on how a seemingly mentally unwell protogenist gets flowers and cards from people at large which ultimately brings about the change of heart. Seems the chief commissioner of the local government in his capacity as the custodian of the roads should be getting a truck load of roses with a get well soon card. Roads in Pune need to get better from their seemingly terminal illness. "Lage Raho Munna Bhai" showed that there is always hope even for cronically ill people. BTW folks t

An Encouraging and Heartning Story

Permalink http://www.indianexpress.com/printerFriendly/14277.html Print Story Now Gujarat poor don’t need to chase schemes, they will come home Sreenivas janyala Posted online: Sunday, October 08, 2006 at 0000 hrs IST AHMEDABAD, OCTOBER 7After several years of waiting, Railiben Babubhai Naik, who belongs to a below-poverty-line (BPL) family, got a house under the Indira Awas Yojna in Ankli village of Devgadh Baria in Dahod district. She was entitled to the benefits for a decade but never got them. Sigabhai Valjibhai Vasawa of Jharvani village in Nandod Taluka of Narmada district needed Rs 10,000 to set up a provision store. He got it under the Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojna (SGSY) in August when officials of the Directorate of Rural Development Agency came looking for him. Thanks to a new delivery system developed by the Gujarat Rural Development Department, schemes meant for BPL and poor families are now reaching the people they are meant for. “From treating the schemes as ‘quotas

9/11 and War Against Global Terror

Couple of days ago the world remembered the victims of the bombing of the World Trade Centre, Pentagon and other terror targets of 11 Sept 2001. This year was significant becase it was 5 years since the day. Its been 5 year since the world suddered at the horror of the incedent and over 5 years since the efforts to bring the perpetrators of this henious crime to justice started. As of the day prior to the anniversary of the bombings one of the planners was back on TV continuing to saber rattle the world. The back ground to the video was a well stocked library which obvoiusly indicates that he is in some safe house and not running from the forces tackling terror. Part of the reason why some the the folks responsible for the attacks of 9/11 have not been brought to justice has been the necessisities of Business  and Foreign Policy. These necessities limit the action that countries can take against powers that are harbouring and aiding terror. A classic example of this nexus between busin

Independence Day

Hi All, Its been some time since I updated my blog so I thought of posting some of my thoughts on the 59th Independence day of India. Today India celebrated its 59th Day of Independence. On 15th Aug 1947 India gained Independence from British Rule. The country has come a long way since then, form being a agrarian economy where the farmers were at the mercy of Monsoon Rains every year, India today is on the verge of becoming a major economic power globally. However, if India needs to make it as a global economic power we need to achieve the following: Continued sustained investment in Education, Infrastructure and nutritional security. A sustained economic growth rate of between 8-10%. Greater economic equality through affirmative action, better implementation of government programs. A key requisite for achieving the above mentioned economic imperitives requires India to take up another struggle for Independence. This Independence movement would be freedom from middle men and corruption

Uttaranchal: The Horror Story - Part I

"The land of Celestial Beauty Blessed with magnificent glaciers, majestic snow-clad mountains, gigantic and ecstatic peaks, valley of flowers, skiing slopes and dense forests, this Abode of Gods includes many shrines and places of pilgrimage. Char-dhams,the four most sacred and revered Hindu temples: Badrinath,Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri are nestled in the Mighty Mountains.A picturesque state, with a breathtaking panoramic view of Himalayas, Uttaranchal promises its tourists a visit full of fun and unforgettable moments. " That's how the Website of the Dept of Tourism of the State of Uttaranchal describes itself. All of the above is true but for the fact that the state needs to go a long way in improving its prospects if attracting tourism in the long run and delivering a quality experience to them. This Blog is in continuation to the last posting a few days ago when I had mentioned that I was about to proceed on a much needed Power Break. Well all that I can say is

Mandal - II

Image
The agitation continues.. As Delhi burns our Nero continues to fiddle. Personally I have been a great admirer of the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. So its some time difficult to imagine this quite and well meaning Gentleman being made to handle the mess that has been created by his peers. But I think he is a survivor and will come out of this challange much stronger. The time has come for Congress (I) to implemented Kamaraj Plan II. These old not so functional leaders who have provided great service to the nation need to be asked to retire and go home (and do some party work). Only time will tell how things will turnout but I hope the students don't give up. They are our only beacon hope. Have been monitering the blog these people have put up and whats interesting is the diverse reactions that have been coming from folks. Also surprising is the stony silence that is being maintained by both Youth for Equality and the Government. Is something cooking. Maybe the next few days wil

YOUTH FOR EQUALITY

Hello everyone, I want you guys to visit this webblog its known as YOUTH FOR EQUALITY . This blog is important to me since it represents an valiant attempt by the Indian Youth to preserve a society where access to growth and personal growth is based on an individuals Merit. It also calls the Bluff on the Indian Goverment's claim to India being a country where people get an equal opportunity to grow and improve their lot. Folks this movement is not on the lines of the KKK. If this fails then the next step will mean that Private Sector and the Multinational Companies in India will not be able to employ people of their choice. And instead will have to choose their employees based on a policy of job quotas based affirmative action. Cheers for now Pushkar

Kargil By Gen. V P Malik

I have lately been reading a interesting book "Kargil" written by Gen V. P Malik. This book primarily focuses on the series of events that lead to the Kargil War between India and Pakistan and beyond. The book is a well written piece of litterature, which for the first time provides a insiders view to the Indian side of the war. It also allows us a small peak view to the Military Doctrian with in Indian Armed forces. Two very significant things that emerge from the book are the complete isolation of the military from the process of formulation and execution of the Strategic Foreign Policy and the difference of opinion amongts the military leadership on the purpose and nature of deployment/use of each of the armed forces. To elaborate the points meentioned above: One of the sour points that Gen Malik keeps mentioning is the lack of information on the "Track 2" diplomacy gathering pace between India and Pakistan in the buildup to the "Kargil War". The point
